In case you didn't already know, Port Jefferson has produced quite a few celebrities, and one of our personal favorites has come home to stay! All of you Hell's Kitchen fan's already know the winner of Season 2, Heather West from the hit reality TV show. Other's might know her from her childhood growing up right here in Port Jefferson. I had the pleasure of knowing Heather long before she was on television or even cooking. Heather and I went to High School together and were both in the drama club. Kristin's ties to this local celeb are far more impressive and even date back to her birth, as Heather and Kristin are cousins!
Standing the heat in Gordon's Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen was no easy feat, but Heather's spunky spirit and impressive culinary capability scorched her competition. Heather's prize was a contract as executive chef at a world famous restaurant in Las Vegas. However after a few years out west, Heather wanted to return home to our quaint seaside hometown and her family.
We're thrilled that Heather has returned home to Port Jefferson and now is the executive chef of Schafer's Restaurant and Bar in the village. Schafer's is destined to be one of Port Jefferson's newest landmarks. With breathtaking water-views and an elegant dining area, the Restaurant at Schafer's offers a gourmet brunch and Port Jefferson's finest selection of seafood and dinner options. In fact, in the few short weeks that Heather has been at Schafer's she's rewritten the menu, adding some incredible and unique dishes that you wont find elsewhere! Heather describes the new menu as "casual fine dining with an emphasis on American seafood." We were gushing over her appetizer of soft pretzels and spinach dip and the MINDBLOWING Grandma Style grilled pizza. Wow.
