Disney Junior Live on Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure - Review

By Kristin Schombs April 17, 2014
Yesterday, I got to take my family into the city to see Disney Junior Live on Tour! Pirate and Princess Adventure! at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.  Since my daughter just turned 4 on Wednesday, this was an awesome treat for her.  She is a HUGE Disney Jr. Fan, and as some of you know, I’m not that shy about my love for all things Disney, so I was pretty excited too.

First of all, if you are one of those people who live on Long Island but rarely travel into NYC because you don’t know your way around, it simply cannot get any easier than Madison Square Garden.  We took the LIRR in to Penn Station and walked right upstairs to Madison Square Garden, it was THAT easy. We arrived at the theater (dressed in our pirate and princess costumes) with plenty of time to spare, so the kids got to shop for their souvenir’s.  My daughter and my 6 year old niece both chose the light up tiara.  My daughter also got a sword that not only lights up, but makes noise.  My 6 year old nephew chose the hat that looked like Jake’s hair.

Once we were all set with blinking tiaras and flashing swords we made our way into the theater.  About 15 minutes before the show started, there was a Doc McStuffins pre-show.  Doc helped out a remote control car, and she had the audience get up and help “shake the wiggles out”.  Once all the wiggles were gone, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse showed up to get the show started.
The first half of the show featured Sofia the First.  Sofia was worried about Friendship Day. She had help and advice from all her friends in Enchancia; Amber, James, Baileywick, Flora, Fauna, Merryweather and even Cinderella! The costumes were all beautifully detailed.  The actors were all “lip syncing” to the voices from the television show.  The songs that they danced and sang to were all familiar songs from the television series.  My daughter, who has every episode saved on the DVR, was singing along to all of them.  There were projection screens that brought the show to life, and made the audience feel as if they were actually in Enchancia.

During the intermission, there were a few pirates walking around, posing for pictures with the audience.  They selected a few special pirates or princesses to help kick off the second half of the show.
Once again, Mickey and Minnie showed up to introduce Jake and the Neverland Pirates.

Jake and his pals, Izzy, and Cubby led the audience on a treasure hunt, searching for a volcano that erupts treasure.  Captain Hook, and his crew including my favorites Sharky & Bones were of course trying beat Jake to the treasure.  With the help of the projection screens, some fancy foot work, and a bit of pixie dust, the audience traveled with Jake and his crew all throughout Neverland and the Neverseas!  There was even a special appearance from Tinkerbelle and Peter Pan!

The entire show lasted about 90 minutes and had one intermission that was about 15 minutes long.  The show is defiantly geared towards the younger fans of Disney Junior, but even my 10 year old had a great time.  There was plenty of audience participation that kept all the kids engaged and on the edge of their seats (or standing up when told by the cast).  If you have little ones, this show should be on your must see list!
