Frank Melville Park in Setauket is a beautiful hidden gem. Tucked away from the main hustle and bustle of Long Island, Frank Melville Park offers a beautiful place to get out with the family and be out in nature.
The path around the pond is paved, which is great for strollers and wheelchairs. There are frequent benches which invite you to sit down and take in the nature around you. Bring a blanket and pack some snacks or lunch while you’re there.
As you make your way around the pond, you will see many beautiful trees. Take a closer look at the pond and you will also find a lot of wildlife! There are swans, ducks, and other birds. As you head to the bridge, make sure to find the turtles that are always on the logs in the water. Turn to the other side of the bridge and you’ll often find more wildlife on that side such as swans.
If you want to get even closer to nature, follow the path towards the barn and community garden. In the back of the preserve is a bamboo forest which is unique and fun for children to see. See the entire map of trails here.
You can even bring Fido to the park, as long as he is leashed and picked up after. You will find a lot of leashed dogs going on walks at this park too, which was a delight for my children.
