10 Non-Toy and Non-Candy Ideas for Your Easter Basket

By Helen Partlow, Mt Sinai & Port Jefferson Macaroni Publisher March 21, 2019

I don’t know about you, but I am STILL trying to find where to put all of the toys that keep coming into my house.  Toys and candy are people’s go-to gifts to put into baskets and eggs.   While those can be fun, it also can be fun to think outside of the box!

Here are some ideas on what to put into your child’s basket that is not the typical toy or candy related:

  1. Outdoor Activities/Toys:  Spring is a great time to get back outside!  Gifts such as sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and kites help encourage kids to put down the tablets and head outside.
  2. Nature & Science Activities: I love nature and to explore its magnificence would make for a great gift!  Your budding scientist might enjoy a magnifying glass to get an even better look at that ladybug, a butterfly kit to learn about all the different phases up close and personal, sand toys for the beach or sandbox, or even a microscope or telescope!
  3. Summer Stuff: Summer is right around the corner and all of the summer items are coming out into the stores.  Gifting a brand new bathing suit, towel, or sunglasses for the season would also be a great gift.
  4. Crafty Stuff: For those children that are creative you can’t ever have enough supplies!  Stickers/sticker books,  crayons, coloring books, paints, craft kits and more would help encourage your child’s talents and interests.
  5. Clothes:  Don’t just get socks or underwear but pick out something that your child would really love to wear.  Maybe pajamas or a t-shirt with a favorite character or show.  Short sleeve weather is upon us!
  6. Spring Stuff: With spring comes rain. Unleash your inner Peppa Pig and let them jump in those muddy puddles with a new raincoat, rain boots, and umbrella.
  7. Hands-On Projects:  Some kids really enjoy working with their hands.  Building and painting a birdhouse would be a great project you can do together.  Encouraging your child to work with you or have their own little garden would be another great idea for this season and you could get gardening supplies, pots and seeds for your child to use their green thumb.
  8. Tickets: I love giving tickets because they are something unique that we don’t get every day and they don’t take up space in my house.  Tickets to a baseball game, theatre,      concert, or movie would be a great idea.
  9. Experience voucher: I love getting out of the house and experiencing new things with my kids!  Give your artist an art class, your nature lover a trip to a zoo or aquarium, or your musician music lessons!
  10. Books: Need I say more?  There can never be enough books!

Whatever you decide to get your child this year, something a little out of the box might be just what the Easter Bunny ordered!
