My family is a very big farm family. My kids have loved visiting farms, particularly the animals, since they were babies. I have always heard of Benner's Farm spoken of so highly (especially their summer camp) so I thought it was about time we visited the farm and see for ourselves!
We had signed up for a private tour of the farm. The public cannot visit the farm as of the time of this article, but the public CAN sign up for a private tour as well as one of their many workshops. Since I live in a high-risk household, I thought this sounded perfect for us. Obviously the amount of people on the farm is very low and the only person we came into contact with was our OUTSTANDING guide, Sam. Masks are required for both the tour guide and for the families visiting as well as maintaining social distance. This combination made me feel comfortable to sign up.
Sam greeted us as soon as we walked up from the parking lot. Even with a mask on, I could immediately tell he was friendly and welcoming. He was excellent with engaging with my kids, who are 4 and 5. He made their day when he let them in to pet their new baby bunnies. They could not stop talking about that for the rest of the day!
We spent the better part of an hour visiting each animal on the farm. We met Elsa the goat and Tippy the Cow, and their oldest resident, Coco Puff the pony who is well into his 40's. We learned things that we didn't know about animals and enjoyed our time together with them. We got to feed the chickens, goats, cows, and almost every animal on the farm.
The experience ended with a wagon ride around their property. They lined the wagons so that in between groups it can be easily cleaned, which I appreciated.
What truly made the experience for me, was Sam. You just don't find people like him everywhere - such a great presence about him. I went into this experience thinking that the animals would have made it special (which it did) but it turns out that the people at Benner's Farm truly are what makes this place special.

About Benner's Farm
Benners Farm is a private fifteen-acre family homestead, first farmed in the 1700s. Each year the farm provides thousands of people a sense of what it was like to live on a small farm in years past. We Benner’s are the seventh family to farm this land. We have been farming organically since the late nineteen seventies in our family garden and fields of strawberries, and also raise a variety of farm animals for self-sufficient living. Thousands of people come to visit and participate in the many workshops, festivals and special events during the year.
