What’s all the buzz around sensory and play dough kits? Why are parents flocking to Etsy, Facebook and Instagram to scoop up these screen free kits that keep their children engaged for extended periods of time? What is this MAGIC!?!  Simply put, a good sensory kit will provide your child with just that, a sensory experience. Their whole body is engaged along with their senses. Add the invitation to play and create and you have a box of magic that helps your child with problem solving skills, critical thinking, fine motor and language development.

Enter onto the scene two Long Island homeschooling mommas on a quest to help their children thrive during the pandemic. The moms of Tinkertainment wanted to provide their kids with activities to keep them engaged for more than a few minutes at a time. Here is where their graduate level experience comes into play. Carly, a seasoned early childhood special educator, and Denise, a registered behavior technician with a focus on play therapy, sought to combine their education and therapeutic background experiences to provide a space for their children to not only grow, but to thrive. Between the two women are six high energy children ranging in age from 17 months to 8 1/2 years. Their goal was to provide something for each of their children’s ability levels and various occupational therapy and sensory needs. While they both had extensive background in creating sensory bins for clients and students, it occurred to them over coffee, while their kids were tinkering away at the table with some play dough and loose parts that they could provide this service to the general public. At that moment, not only was their core focus group born, but so too was Tinkertainment

There are so many benefits to manipulating play dough. From activating and strengthening fine motor skills to helping with speech and language acquisition. By adding loose parts you can create a space for your children to create small worlds while utilizing their problem solving skills. What’s great about these kits is that children genuinely love them and they become deeply engrossed while they delve deeper and deeper into their imaginative play.

These kits have come at a great time. It’s an absolute understatement to say that moms are stressed. Most are shouldering all aspects of childcare, house keeping, working from home, cooking, and the list goes on. Pandemic Parenting is brutal. Vacations and almost all social activities have been postponed or cancelled. Now imagine waking up on a Monday morning, handing your child a Tinkertainment kit and actually enjoying a hot cup of coffee or tea without interruption. This can be a reality!

Tinkertainment offers a variety of themes for the young tinkerer. A bonus is that each theme also carries a Toddler variation.  No sibling left behind! As an added bonus, the company also puts out Limited Edition holiday themed kits. The play dough is vegan and made using nut free ingredients which makes it school safe. They also offer a Gluten Free line of play dough kits for children with Celiac. Just note it in your correspondence when you make your order.

If you live on Long Island you will qualify for free contactless delivery with orders over $25. They also take custom orders as well as supply styled party favors.

They are now taking pre orders for their not yet released St Patrick’s Day and Easter. They sell out quickly so order yours today!
