Happy Mother's Day to all of the amazing mothers, grandmothers, aunts, mothers-in-law, stepmothers, and any of you taking on that type of caregiver role - kudos to you!  Sunday is all about celebrating you and your selfless, tireless, efforts in caring for the little rugrats in our lives.  I hope you all feel loved, pampered, and appreciated!

10 Things To Do on Mother's Day

1. Go out to brunch

Lots of restaurants have Mother's Day specials as it's one of the busiest days for restaurants all year! I am not sure if any are sold out, but here are a few local suggestions in our area:

2. Head to the beach

While it is not swimming weather yet, you can still enjoy the beautiful breeze, fantastic view, and the sand between your toes.  Let mom go by herself and enjoy some time reading by the water.  Or join her and gather all of the sand toys while mom relaxes in a beach chair.

3. Go shopping

Bring mom to her favorite store or walk around some fantastic villages we have such as Port Jefferson or Stony Brook.  Looking to venture a little further out? Greenport, Northport and Huntington all have fabulous walkable villages.

4. Enjoy a spa day

We have some great spas in our area, such as the Spa at East Wind. Or you can try having a spa day at home! Get in comfy robes, your favorite face mask, and make a nail salon station.

5. Go for a walk

Reconnecting with nature is so soothing for the soul.  Head out for a family walk at one of our great local spots such as Avalon Preserve, Frank Melville Park, the Nature Walk at Cedar Beach, or trek a little farther away to Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown, Elizabeth A Morton Preserve in Sag Harbor, or the Bayard Arboretum in Oakdale.

6. Make breakfast in bed

Let mom sleep in for a change!  Get breakfast from her favorite spot or get the kids on board and make some fancy pancakes, eggs or waffles!

6. Go mini-golfing or bowling

I love both mini-golfing and bowling.  This is a way to bring the whole family together and have some fun. Head out to play mini-golf at the Country Fair in Medford, or Tiki Action Park in Centereach.  Rather stay inside?  Try your hand at bowling at the Coram Country Lanes or Port Jefferson Bowl!

7. Plant something

Spend the day getting dirty and making a garden. Plant flowers or vegetables and have the kids pitch in and make it a family event.  Maybe if they plant the vegetables and help them grow, kids may be more likely to try some new ones!  Make some mud pies and breathe in the fresh air.

8. Taste some local wine

We are lucky to have so many incredible vineyards nearby!

Here are some local ones that are kid-friendly! Bedell Cellars (Cutchogue), Duck Walk Vineyards (Southold & Water Mill), Lieb Cellars (Cutchogue), RGNY Vineyards formerly Martha Clara (Riverhead), McCall Wines (Cutchogue), and Palmer Vineyards (Riverhead).

9. Attend a tulip festival

There are two local tulip festivals going on - at Waterdrinker Farm in Manorville. Who doesn't love thousands and thousands of tulips?

10. Visit a local farm or petting zoo

Long Island is reopening and so are many of its animal attractions! Head to the Long Island Game Farm (Manorville), Animal Park Petting Zoo (Manorville), Fink's Farm Barnyard Adventure (Wading River), Suffolk County Farm (Yaphank), Garden of Eve (Riverhead), Harbes Family Farm (Mattituck), Holtsville Ecology Site (Holtsville), Sweetbriar Nature Center (Smithtown), White Post Farm (Melville).
