Happy Father's Day to all of the amazing dads, grandpas, uncles, fathers-in-law, stepdads, and any of you taking on that type of caregiver role - kudos to you! Sunday is all about celebrating you and your selfless, tireless, efforts in caring for the little rugrats in our lives. I hope you all feel loved, pampered, and appreciated!
10 Things To Do on Father's Day
1. Take Dad Out to Eat
My dad always complains that no one ever does a special Father's Day dinner around here. But there are some really great restaurants that he may like! Check to see if the restaurant accepts reservations before heading out to save you some wait time.
- J&R's Steakhouse - Calverton
- Maui Chop House - Rocky Point
- Dos Mexicuban Cantina - Miller Place
- Wasabi Hibachi - Miller Place
- Midori Sushi and Steakhouse - Mt Sinai
- Amici - Mt Sinai
- Grumpy Jack's - Port Jefferson
- PJ Lobster House - Port Jefferson
- Old Field's BBQ - Setauket
- The Bench - Stony Brook
2. Head to the beach
The weather is heating up and Long Island has beautiful beaches everywhere you look. A beach day is a perfect mix of activity and relaxation for dad and his whole family. Check out our Beach Guide to see where you want to head out!
3. Go to a Long Island Ducks Game
The Ducks are having a special Father's Day BBQ at the 1:35pm game against the Wild Health Genomes. It will also be Family Fun Day which includes a pregame catch on the field and postgame kids run the bases!
4. Go Fishing
Head out to fish with Osprey Fishing Charter, Celtic Quest Fishing, or Captain Fish Charters, all right out of Port Jefferson Village. Reservations may be required so make sure to call early for any availability.
5. Go for a walk
Reconnecting with nature is so soothing for the soul. Head out for a family walk at one of our great local spots such as Avalon Preserve, Frank Melville Park, the Nature Walk at Cedar Beach, or trek a little farther away to Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown, Elizabeth A Morton Preserve in Sag Harbor, or the Bayard Arboretum in Oakdale.
6. Go mini-golfing or bowling
I love both mini-golfing and bowling. This is a way to bring the whole family together and have some fun. Head out to play mini-golf at the Long Island Sports Park in Calverton, Country Fair in Medford, or Tiki Action Park in Centereach. Rather stay inside? Try your hand at bowling at the Coram Country Lanes or Port Jefferson Bowl!
7. Rent a Kayak or Paddleboard
Head out on the water and rent a kayak or paddleboard in Stony Brook Harbor Rentals. You can also rent from Paumanonk Tours which has location choices such as Mt Sinai Harbor, Port Jefferson Harbor, and Setauket Harbor.
8. Visit a Brewery
We are lucky to have so many incredible breweries nearby! You can bring your children to the Port Jeff Brewery (they have to stay seated with their families) and after you can let the kids play at Rocketship Park, a local favorite playground or meandor through Port Jefferson Village. Or visit the Riverhead Ciderhouse in Calverton, featuring local ciders, beers and wines. While you're there, grab a bite to eat from their cafe, complete with kids menu.
9. Attend a Strawberry Festival
All weekend long, the Mattituck Strawberry Festival is happening. On Father's Day, dads get in for free with a paying child. Enjoy carnival rides, craft vendors, strawberry delicacies and more. Garden of Eve in Riverhead is also having their own Strawberry Festival with u-pick strawberries, and family fun fields.
10. Visit a local farm or petting zoo
Long Island is reopening and so are many of its animal attractions! Head to the Long Island Game Farm (Manorville), Animal Park Petting Zoo (Manorville), Fink's Farm Barnyard Adventure (Wading River), Suffolk County Farm (Yaphank), Garden of Eve (Riverhead), Harbes Family Farm (Mattituck), Holtsville Ecology Site (Holtsville), Sweetbriar Nature Center (Smithtown), White Post Farm (Melville).
