Brookhaven Town has some upcoming programs for families at West Meadow Beach in Setauket and Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai. Registration is required, but the programs are free. To register, please email Nicole at npocchiare@brookhavenny.gov with participants' names, children's ages, and your phone number. In the subject, put the program name that you are registering for.
Birding at the Beach - Saturday, 8/7
West Meadow Beach at 10AM and Cedar Beach at 2PM
West Meadow Beach 10a.m. & Cedar Beach 2p.m. With their varied marine environments of shoreline, maritime shrubs and salt marsh, these peninsulas provide year-round homes, breeding opportunities and migratory stopover habitat for a host of bird species. Please bring binoculars and a field guide if you have them.
Junior Environmental Stewards - Saturday, 8/14
West Meadow Beach at 10AM and Cedar Beach at 2PM
The stewards, ages 11+, will seine the salt marsh to observe and identify the species that inhabit this significant coastal environment. The various recordings will introduce the stewards to accurate data collection and analysis towards a conclusion regarding biodiversity. The walk is brought to you in part by the National Fish and Wildlife, through the Long Island Sound Study.

Join this family fun walk as we learn about the common moon phases and phrases, how the moon drives patterns and culture on earth, and what nocturnal animals call the beach home.

Please join us as we explore the unique ecology of the beach and salt marsh. We will learn about the flora, fauna and habitats that comprise this beautiful place. This walk will also include a tour of the Marine Environmental Stewardship Center, Eel Grass Restoration Project, and Shellfish Hatchery. Please wear closed, comfortable shoes and bring binoculars if you have them. The walk is brought to you in part by the National Fish and Wildlife, through the Long Island Sound Study.
Growing Up Wild - Saturday, 8/28

Parents and grandparents are invited to explore nature with their little ones, ages 3-6 years old. Each class will focus on a different nature topic and may include a story time, live animals and a related craft or activity.

Please join us as we explore the unique ecology of the salt marsh. We will seine to observe and identify the species that inhabit this significant coastal environment. The various organisms will introduce participants to the unique ecology & biodiversity of Long Island Sound Coastal Environments.
